Enlarged inner genital lips (labia minora ) can cause physical discomfort
and self-consciousness during intimacy or while wearing certain type of
clothing. There are many causes for change in the appearance of labia minora:
age, childbirth and hormonal influences. Although, most commonly, labia minora
assumes its shape during the normal sexual maturation and development. The
surgical procedure known as labiaplasty can enhance and improve vaginal
appearance and give women more confidence and comfort. Labiaplasty can be
performed safely in our Boston, Massachusetts office based surgical suite. How is Labiaplasty performed in our Boston, Massachusetts center? Labiaplasty takes between one and two hours and would usually be performed under sedation in our Boston office setting. Sometimes patients wish to have the procedure done only under local anesthesia and that is possible. How much pain and swelling can be expected after Labiaplasty? Mild to moderate pain for several days is normal. Prescriptions for pain medication will be given to you. Moderate swelling is also normal and should subside over several weeks. When can I resume normal activities? Generally, you can go back to work within a week, but more strenuous activities may have to wait two to three weeks. How long will the results last? The results are permanent. What are some of the potential complications of Labiaplasty? Some complications are specific to Labiaplasty, while others are one which could be encountered with any type of surgery. Some of the complications associated with any surgery are bleeding, infection and poor scarring. Specific to Labiaplasty are pigmentation changes to the area, loss of sensation, tightness, difficulty urinating and incision edge separations. Usually, complications are uncommon and will be discussed with you in detail during you consultation. |
