Who Should Get a Labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty is a simple, gynecological procedure that involves the removal of excess labial tissue from the vaginal area. This can be done for a number of reasons. This surgery is not limited to a certain type of person or reason for having labiaplasty.

In fact, there are multiple methods of labiaplasty and each procedure is chosen with the individual woman’s needs in mind. Here are four common techniques for labiaplasty:

With the various reasons for going through with a labiaplasty procedure and the different methods involved, you are probably asking yourself who should have a labiaplasty operation. Surgery is a major decision and should not be taken lightly.

When should you get a labiaplasty

  • Women that experience discomfort during sexual intercourse as a result of excessive labial tissue may be a good candidate for the procedure.
  • Painful chafing from large vaginal lips can also be a good reason to consider surgery.
Some women experience difficulty using tampons because of their labial tissue that could be solved with a simple labiaplasty surgery.
  • Women with body image issues or self-consciousness that are a result of enlarged, extended, discolored, or uneven labial tissue may find a solution with labiaplasty.
  • Women that are embarrassed or self-conscious about the appearance of “camel toe” when wearing tight clothing or swimsuits can also benefit from this elective surgery.
  • Sometimes, women experience a change or tears in the vaginal area as a result of childbirth. Certain labiaplasty techniques may serve to correct the problem.

Reasons you should not get a labiaplasty

  • You should never get labiaplasty because of pressure from someone else. If your partner, friends, or anyone else is pressuring you into getting the procedure done then you need to consider whether or not this is something you want for yourself. This is a cosmetic procedure that requires recovery time and as surgery, it does come with its own risks. Labiaplasty is an intimate procedure and a personal decision. It’s important that you are comfortable with the procedure and are going through with it for yourself.
  • If you don’t have issues with the way your body looks and you are not experiencing discomfort or pain then you do not need to go through with the surgery just because your vaginal lips are large or uneven.
